What Preload Cookie Banner Does
Cookie consent banners are often one of the last things to appear on a page, since they typically depend on a plugin’s own JavaScript loading and running before the banner can render. On a fast-loading page, this can mean the banner pops in noticeably after everything else, which can look unpolished and, in some cases, delay how quickly you’re actually compliant with cookie consent requirements for that visit.
Preload Cookie Banner tells BerqWP to load your cookie banner on the initial page load instead of after everything else, so it shows up sooner rather than trailing behind the rest of the page.

The PageSpeed Tradeoff
Preloading your cookie banner can sometimes cause a small drop in your PageSpeed score, since it’s asking the browser to prioritize the banner’s resources earlier than it otherwise would. For most sites this tradeoff is worth it for a banner that doesn’t visibly lag behind the rest of the page, but it’s worth knowing about before you turn it on, the same way Core Web Vitals monitoring has its own small, disclosed PageSpeed tradeoff.

Should You Turn It On?
If you’re using one of the supported cookie consent plugins and you’ve noticed the banner appearing noticeably later than the rest of your page, this is worth turning on. If you’re using a different consent plugin, or your banner already appears quickly enough, there’s no real benefit to enabling it, and the small PageSpeed tradeoff isn’t worth taking on for nothing.
